Abu Dhabi in one day from Dubai
Many travelers hesitate to give Abu Dhabi a whole day. Yet it is a valuable contrast to Dubai: calmer, greener, with major landmarks and a more traditional atmosphere.
Why go
The capital of the Emirates combines the spectacular architecture of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, world-class museums and wide open spaces for strolling. It is also the gateway to the Yas Island parks if you are traveling with children.
Suggested itinerary
- Morning: Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (covering clothing required, see our dress code guide).
- Midday: lunch and a stop along the Corniche and the waterfront.
- Afternoon: Louvre Abu Dhabi or Qasr Al Watan, depending on your taste.
- End of the day: back to Dubai, with a photo stop if the weather allows.
Our Abu Dhabi tour page details the day with a French-speaking guide.
How to get there
Three options: a rental car, a taxi or ride-hailing (convenient but expensive over a long distance), or an organized tour with transport from your hotel. With children, the heat and the driving time, the tour is the most restful solution.
As a family or as a couple
- As a family: add half a day at the Yas Island parks or at Ferrari World.
- As a couple: mosque, Louvre and sunset on the Corniche.
- With friends: combine it with an Abu Dhabi safari.
Guided tour or at your own pace
If you like to improvise, driving yourself is possible. If you want to enjoy the day without driving or hunting for parking, choose the tour. Either way, leave early: the mosque is best visited in the morning, before the heat and the tour groups.
