Ramadan 2027 in Dubai: dates, what is open and tips for traveling
Ramadan is the month of fasting in Islam: Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset. For a traveler it is no reason to avoid Dubai, quite the opposite: days are quieter and evenings have a special atmosphere. You just need to know what changes. Our wider guide to halal travel in Dubai complements this article.
Ramadan and holiday dates in 2027
| Event | Expected date | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Start of Ramadan | Monday 8 February 2027 | Depends on crescent sighting on 6 or 7 February |
| Eid al-Fitr | Tuesday 9 March 2027 | Wednesday 10 March if the crescent is not sighted on the 8th |
| Arafat Day | 15 or 16 May 2027 | The day before Eid al-Adha |
| Eid al-Adha | 16 or 17 May 2027 | Festival of the Sacrifice |
| Islamic New Year | Between 5 and 7 June 2027 | Depends on when Dhul Hijjah begins |
These dates are forecasts from the UAE's astronomy center, reported by the local press. Official dates are announced the evening before, after the moon is sighted. If you book far ahead, allow a one-day margin.
Eating and drinking in the daytime: what are the rules?
Visitors are not required to fast. The strict restrictions of the past have been relaxed: you can eat and drink inside hotels, malls and restaurants. Out of respect for people who are fasting, it is still better to avoid eating, drinking or smoking visibly in the street and in public places during the day.
Many cafés and restaurants stay open during the day, sometimes behind screens; some only open in the afternoon. Check opening hours before you go. Alcohol remains limited to licensed venues, such as some hotels, and service is restricted during the month.
What is open during Ramadan
- Attractions and parks: the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Frame and most parks stay open, sometimes with changed hours. Exact hours are confirmed on each page or by WhatsApp.
- Malls: they open later in the morning and close late, often after midnight.
- Safaris and tours: they continue, with an adapted program. Dance and live music shows are generally suspended during Ramadan; we confirm the exact program before you book. See our safaris.
- Transport: the metro and tram run with adapted hours, and traffic is heavy before sunset, when everyone heads home for iftar.
- Offices: hours are shortened during the month, which matters if you have paperwork to do.
Iftar, suhoor and evenings
Iftar is the meal that breaks the fast at sunset; suhoor is the meal eaten before dawn. Many hotels set up Ramadan tents for the occasion, with buffets of Emirati and Arabic specialties. It is one of the best experiences of the month, but restaurants fill up: book, especially at weekends.
Evenings are calmer than usual: no concerts or live music, background music is limited in restaurants and malls, and nightclubs are closed. On the other hand, family outings, markets and late dinners are very lively.
Dress and etiquette
There is no special rule for Ramadan, but more covered clothing is recommended in public places, with shoulders and knees covered for both women and men. Swimwear remains fine at the hotel pool and on beaches. Our guide what to wear in Dubai covers this in detail.
Eid al-Fitr: the festival that ends Ramadan
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the fast: the city celebrates with lights, fireworks and family meals. Residents usually get several days off, so leisure venues are very busy and hotels fill up. If you travel on those dates, book activities and hotels early.
